Altitude Profile:
After all the planning for the Mandalpatti ride on 18,19 July everyone dropped out. However, decided to continue with the ride to Manchanabele, only Madhusudhan was free and could make it. We had decided to leave at 5:00 am, however, Madhusudhan was able to make it only by 6:20 am. It worked for me as well as I could rest for an additional hour after the previous day’s difficult ride.
We started at 6:20 am and rode at a pretty steady pace and made it out of Kengeri by 7:45 am when we stopped for breakfast just before we turn off the highway towards Manchanabele. 30 minute stop for breakfast and we were on the saddles again. Madhusudhan seemed to be in decent shape, however just after we turn off the highway, we encountered steep climbs. Took its toll, however Maddi (as he is fondly called) stuck to it and did not give up. He pedaled all the way. Made it to the Big Banyan tree which is 8 kilometers from the turn, we did not want a break so continued. Immediately after the Big Banyan tree there is a nice drop followed by a very steep climb, again Maddi stuck to it and did not get off the bike. As soon as we completed the climb, we take a left and then the road is mostly downwards after that. Saw a lot of cyclists who were returning from Manchanabele. Mixed crowd of middle aged people and youngsters. Took in the views and reached Manchanabele at 9:30 am.
The place had a lot of visitors when we reached. Stopped for few snaps and then snacked on some grapes which I had picked up the previous day on the Nandi Hills journey. Took in the view and started the return journey at 10:00 am. We came across a group of very young kids, probably 3rd and 4th standard kids accompanied with adults, cycling towards Manchanabele when we were returning. It was nice to see people across all ages cycling. The return journey was comfortable till we hit the highway. The Sun was out and it was very hot. The heat was sapping all the energy and by the time we made it to Kengeri, Maddi decided that he would stop over at his wife’s place at Chikkalasandra and would get back in the evening. That would mean going back a bit and then taking a deviation to go there. I went along with him to check out that route, thinking that it would be better than going back through Banashankari which has steep climbs. However, this route was no better, has steep climbs till we cross Uttarahalli. Once that is done, it is pretty much down when we get into Jayanagar. I got back at 2:20 pm. I was impressed with Maddi’s resolve to pedal all the way without getting off the bike. “Keep it up Maddi”
