Devanahalli – Jain Temple

Date: 7 February 2015

Total distance: 100 Kilometers

Start Time: 4:30 am

Return Time: 1:00 pm

With: Sushanth and Madhusudhan

Altitude Profile:

It started off as a trip to Nandi Hills. Thanks to me, there was delay of 30 minutes to start as I had overslept. Sushant and Madhusudhan had to wait and we finally started at 4:30 am instead of the scheduled 4:00 am start.

After the initial ride through the city we reached Hebbal. We decided to cycle on the flyover rather than under it. Sushanth was excited and hitting the flyovers hard, but Madhusudhan had a bit of a struggle. We took a break near Yelehanka after the air force base. Madhusudhan was in pretty bad shape here and we decided that we would not go on top of anymore flyovers unless absolutely required. Restarted after 10 minutes, crossed the airport toll. After this there is a flyover which we had to climb since the road under is not completed. Fortunately for us, it was time for the sunrise when we reached the top of the flyover.

Watched a beautiful sunrise and resumed cycling. However, by the time we reached Devanahalli, even though Madhusudhan had recovered, Sushanth’s legs had given up and we had to stop. Took a break and we decided that we could not go further. Stopped at Paratha Point, which was just half a kilometer away from where we had stopped, for breakfast, where a final call was taken that Nandi hills was not possible and instead we decided to visit the Jain temple which was on a small hill behind Paratha Point.

When we started back the Sun was out and so the ride back was slower than the morning ride. We started the return journey at 9:00 am. Sushanth had a difficult time getting back. We made intermittent stops to rest his aching legs and finally made it back at 1:00 pm. The important thing was that we had made it back and it was a 100 kilometer ride under our belts.
